TREKKING IN CAMBODIA
Trekking in Cambodia – There’s nothing like getting out of the main cities of Phnom Penh and Siem reap and into the national park and doing a bit of jungle trekking. There are plenty of choices from climbing in the cardamom mountains to the expanse of Virachey National Park.
There are locations that offer everything from easy walking tours for the slightly less adventurous to completely undiscovered trails.
We’ve listed some of the sites that have trekking tours, the main ones you’ll find in lonely planet guides but there are other gems of southeast asia in here. You can read about the hiking offered as well as learn about other outdoor activities and adventures. Each project gives detailed travel tips for your Cambodia adventure that include jungle trekking tours and an opportunity to see the wildlife including the rare and the common. Not just the elephants and rare tigers but gibbons, tree bears and the many sites supported by the wildlife alliance.
This is not just the cambodia trekking blog that’s just the same as any other travel blog, yes while we encourage you to see Ratanakiri province and Banlung, there’s always Chi Phat, but Cambodia travel is more than that, trekking in the green jungle, the kulen mountain waterfall, just getting away from it all.
Take a look for yourself and see what trekking in Cambodia really has to offer.
Jahoo Gibbon Camp at Seima Forest
Jahoo Gibbon Camp is a responsible community-based ecotourism and conservation project in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, where visitors have the chance to see yellow-cheeked crested gibbons and black-shanked douc langurs, as well as rare bird species. The community is composed mainly of Bunong indigenous people, who have traditionally lived in a close relationship with the forest, but who have limited access to means of income, education, and healthcare. Jahoo Gibbon Camp seeks to address this by providing a sustainable way for the community to earn an income through their forest resources. Our understanding is that this site is not accessible without a tour operator.
Chrok La Eang
Hills of deep green forest and trails along a beautiful waterfall welcome tourists in Chrork La-Eang Village in Aural Wildlife Sanctuary, in the Western province of Pursat. The eco-tourism site is part of the world famous Cardamom Mountains, home to vast tropical forests and exotic animal and plant species. The forest of Chrork La-Eang is protected by the local community, who patrol it regularly to hinder illegal loggers from destroying their beautiful trees.
Chi Phat Community
The Chi-Phat commune (Khmer: ជីផាត,pronunciation: cheephat) is located deep within the Cardamom Mountains in the South-West of Cambodia. The commune consists four villages:Chi-Phat, Komlot, Chom-Sla and T'k La'o. Most of the local residents make their living mainly out of agriculture, fishing and tourism. Ecotourism efforts in recent years have made Chipat a popular destination for foreign visitors and local Cambodians alike. After 10 years of running the ecotourism project, the village is becoming more sustainable and is well known globally.
Chambok Ecotourism Project
Chambok is a community of 9 rural villages where you can experience and learn about the typical daily life of Cambodian families. You can also explore the area’s beautiful natural surroundings. The community-based ecotourism project was established in 2002 to provide an additional income for the local people and help protect the surrounding forest. Since 2003, the Chambok community has protected 1,260 hectares of forestland from logging and hunting. The ecotourism project is managed by the villagers themselves, and all revenues from ecotourism stay in the community.
