Jahoo Gibbon Camp – Sen Monorom – 1 Day Tour

This is the most popular tour visiting the project for a Gibbon and Wildlife watching tour. The tour leaves very early in the morning from Sen Monorom. During the early morning walk with your guide, you will locate one of two residential troops of Yellow-Cheek Gibbon that reside in the forest area. You should also look out for pig-tailed and long-tailed macaques and the silvery lutung, also known as the silvered leaf monkey or silvery langur.

For bird watchers, there are opportunities to catch a glimpse of peacock pheasants, green peafowl, Siamese fireback, great hornbill, and Orange-necked partridge, among others. The forest is also home to one of the largest concentrations of woodpecker, including white-bellied, heart-spotted, black and buff, great slaty and pale-capped woodpecker. After lunch at Jahoo Gibbon Camp you will continue your trek along other more isolated trails in the forest, before transferring back to your hotel in Sen Monorom in the late afternoon.

1 Day Tour

5:00am – meet at The Hangout guest house

  • Travel to the Jahoo Camp

5:30- 5:45am – arrive at the camp

5:45am – Trek into the forest. The gibbons sing in the morning so it’s a great way to know where to go looking for them. We follow the gibbons and the wildlife dependent on what we see that day.

8:30am – Breakfast in the forest

10:30am – Return to the camp

11:00am – Lunch and relaxation back at the camp. This is the hottest part of the day so good to stay in the shade.

2:00pm – Return to the forest to see birdlife, monkeys and other wildlife.

4:00pm – Return to the camp

4:30-5pm – head back to the town

Food, water and transport are included.

Dress Code and Tips

  • It gets muddy in the wet season and is dusty in the dry season so please dress appropriately
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Long trousers are best to avoid the mosquito’s
  • Sunscreen

The Hangout guest house is just off the main street in Sen Monorom, and is easy walking distance from most places given that the town is so small.
