The 2nights/2days Koh Pdao rural island homestay offers a chance to experience remote island life at your pace. Travel by boat to Roungdeav island across the Mekong river from Sambour to your homestay. Stay with a local family for two nights and enjoy two days exploring the island by foot or bicycle ($2-$3). Rice fields, coconut trees, traditional Khmer villages and rivers make up this beautiful island home. The Koh Pdao Homestay is a
perfect base to explore the Mekong river by boat and your chance to spot Irrawaddy dolphins (link to product).
Homestays are in a Khmer style house with a local family. Two villages on the 45km long island host guests. Included in your stay are delicious home-cooked Khmer food. Accommodation is equipped with bedding, mosquito
net, electricity and a squat-style toilet. The Koh Pdao rural island homestay is a naturally charming immersion into village life, in a truly beautiful part of Cambodia.
The homestay includes a two night stay, four meals, and transport to and from the island by boat.


Day 1

  • Arrive at Sambour boat dock, across from 100 Pillar Pagoda and meet with your boat pick-up. Please specify your time of arrival so that the community can prepare to meet you.
  • Arrive Roungneav Island – meet with your homestay host and check-in to your homestay
  • Explore the island by foot, bicycle or arrange a boat trip to visit nearby sandy beach or spot dolphins on the river
  • Dinner at your homestay

Day 2

  • Breakfast at your homestay
  • Relax and unwind on the island, cycle the sandy streets or arrange a boat journey to a nearby sandy beach for a swim
  • Lunch at you homestay
  • Dinner at your homestay
  • Overnight stay

Day 3

  • Return to Sambour by boat

Getting there

Koh Pdao Homestay can be reached by boat from Sambour (40kms north of Kratie). Boats are arranged in advance and dock at the shore across from the 100 Pillar Pagoda.

Getting to Sambour
Sambour is 40kms north of Kratie town along national road 6 and 7 From Kratie, a tuk-tuk (fits three people) and takes 1 hour and costs $20.

Getting to the Koh Pdao Homestay
From Sambour, Koh Pdao Homestay is located on the island of Rougdeav is a 30 minute boat ride. Boats cost $12/$16 1-3pax/5-9pax return. The boat takes you directly to your homestay.

Getting to Kratie
From Phnom Penh, regular bus services depart to Kratie Province and take between 5-7 hours. Times vary between 7am – 9am. Check with your guesthouse for up to date times. Or visit to book your journey directly.

From Siem Reap – Kratie, buses depart in the morning and take between 7-8hours.

From Sambour, your easiest onwards journey is via Kratie town as most buses depart here. From Sambour head to the front of the market, 5 minutes walk away from the 100 Pillar Pagoda. Here you can arrange a tuk-tuks, moto-dop or hop on a local bus. If unsure, ask at the restaurant closest to the boat dock as they speak some English.
